Analyse économique de la pêcherie crevettière de Guyane Française ArchiMer
Gilly, B.; Cochet, Y..
The french Guyana sh rimp fishery has grown from the sixties, following the development of US a nd Japanese fleets. The EEZ delimitation in 1977 and the french policy towards promotion of french vessels allowed, since 1980, the emergence of french ship-owners. The paper analyses the recent economie evolution of the enterprises and underlines first the importance of this activity within regional economy, and second its dependance on imported inputs. The french policy leads to an incrcase of the share of the net added value that remains in the depanment, but it also come to a poor financial status of the french ship-owners. The data collected and given in this paper will be used to feed a bio-economic model o f the shrimp fishery.

Authenticating the origin of different shrimp products on the Tunisian markets by PCR/RFLP method ArchiMer
Besbes, Nadia; Jerome, Marc; Berge, Jean-pascal; Sadok, Saloua.
This study describes a polymerase chain reaction using restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) assay based on the 16S rRNA mitochondrial gene to identify commercial food products of wide range of Penaeidae and Pandalidae shrimp species commercialised in the Tunisian market. Phylogenetic analyses on 16S rRNA mitochondrial gene were used to study the relationships among the considered species. Penaeidae shrimp species was easily differentiated and confirmed by direct sequencing, showing a genetic distance of 0.34 with respect to Pandalidae species. A rapid and reliable PCR method using restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) with three restriction enzymes (HpyCH4III/ MboI / AluI) was optimized for unambiguous differentiation of shrimp...

Caractérisation de bactéries lactiques psychrotrophes en vue de leur utilisation dans la biopréservation des aliments. Étude physiologique et moléculaire des mécanismes d’adaptation au froid ArchiMer
Matamoros, Sebastien.
Lactic acid bacteria strains were isolated from seafood products and clustered according to their inhibiting capacities against 14 food borne spoiling and pathogenic strains in order to develop applications in biopreservation. Most of the strains were identified as Leuconostoc gelidum and Lactococcus piscium. Detailed identification of one strain of the Lactococcus piscium strains suggests that it is a new specie. According to sensory analysis results, 2 strains belonging to the Leuconostoc gelidum specie were the most efficient for the enhancement of the shelf life of vacuum packed peeled and cooked shrimps. Similar results were obtained in cold smoked salmon with one strains of Lactococcus sp. A challenge test against three pathogenic strains (Listeria...

Crustacés profonds capturés aux casiers aux Antilles Françaises ArchiMer
Paulmier, Gerard.
For several years the fishermen of the West Indies have directed their activities towards new fishing grounds, notably the bathyales zones adjacent to island plateaux up to approximately 1000 metres in depth. Explorations earned out since 1989 have shown that diverse crustacean populations could be exploited. However, populations and exploitable stocks arc not well known. The use of crustaceans traps as a fishing technique permits the capture of shellfish, shrimps and prawns of which at least six species could have commercial interest. The main objective of this work is do draw up an inventory of the principal commercial species as well as the accompanying species belonging to the subordres Decapoda macrura, anomura, brachyura, and to the orders Isopoda...

Effect of dietary probiotic Pediococcus acidilactici on antioxidant defences and oxidative stress status of shrimp Litopenaeus stylirostris ArchiMer
Castex, Mathieu; Lemaire, Pierrette; Wabete, Nelly; Chim, Liet.
in this study we evaluated the effects of the probiotic Pediococcus acidilactici MA18/5M on shrimp, Litopenaeus stylirostris (also called Penaeus stylirostris), first on antioxidant defences and secondly on the oxidative stress status in the shrimps' haemolymph and digestive gland. We conducted two experiments with the same protocol in which shrimps were fed two diets for three weeks: a control diet and a probiotic diet containing 1 g of live P. acidilactici MA18/5M kg(-1). In the first experiment, the shrimps were found to be healthy over the trial period; no mortalities and non-detectable signs of infection were recorded. These resulted in high final survival rates (above 90% in both treatments). On the other hand, during the second trial, carried out at...

Etude des tris précoces en élevage de crevettes P. stylirostris dans un objectif de sélection génétique. Février à Juillet 2000. ArchiMer
De Decker, Sophie.
Schemes optimisation for genetic improvement for growth of Penaeus stylirostris requires the development of technologies for grading shrimps easily. This work shows that bar and mesh graders are very suitable for early selection at post-larval stages, as long as early growth is heritable. Experimental data sets lead to the equations which give the grading weight as a function of the dimensions of the graders. Mesh graders which allow an earlier selection than bar graders (PL19 instead of PL25) open a new way to implement experimental selection into production hatcheries.

First record of a pontoniine shrimp (Caridea, Palaemonidae) in association with a boring bivalve of the genus Spengleria (Bivalvia, Euheterodonta, Gastrochaenidae) Naturalis
Fransen, C.H.J.M.; Meij, S.E.T. van der.
During fieldwork in Raja Ampat, West Papua, Indonesia, in 2007, a pontoniine shrimp, most likely belonging to the genus Anchistus, was collected from a coral boring bivalve of the genus Spengleria. This is the first record of a pontoniine shrimp living in association with a boring bivalve. As it probably concerns a juvenile shrimp, its identity remains unclear. Its affinities with the Indo-West Pacific mollusc-associated genera and with congenerics are discussed.

Marine crustacean farming: present status and perspectives ArchiMer
Laubier, Annie; Laubier, Lucien.
For centuries, several species of prawns and crabs have been raised from wild-caught juveniles in coastal brackish-water fish ponds in various countries of south east Asia. The Indonesian "tambaks" are well known examples of such traditional practices. In western countries, since the turn of the century, advances of marine biology and fast increase of marine fisheries enabled the development of large-scale production and release of larval stages of American and European lobsters in a fruitless attempt to restock natural populations. After the Second World War, the increasing demand for crustaceans in United States and Japan was satisfied by opening new prawn fisheries all over the world. A major breakthrough was achieved with the development of hatchery...

On Plesionika persica (Kemp, 1925) and P. reflexa Chace, 1985 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Pandalidae) from India ArchiMer
Chan, Tin-yam; Chakraborty, Rekha Devi; Purushothaman, P.; Kuberan, G.; Yang, Chien-hui.
The availability of Indian specimens of Plesionika persica (Kemp, 1925) and P. reflexa Chace, 1985 provided more information on the taxonomy around these two species. Moreover, it is the first record of P. persica to India. Although P. taiwanica Chan and Yu, 2000 is superficially rather similar to P. persica, there are many differences between them and probably it is inappropriate to establish a species group for these two species. It is likely that all previous records of P. ensis (A. Milne-Edwards, 1881) from India actually represent P. reflexa Chace, 1985. Nevertheless, the present Indian specimens of P. reflexa have more than 10% COI sequence divergence from the topotypic materials of both P. ensis and P. reflexa, and the epipods at the pereiopods III...

Rearing effect of biofloc on antioxidant and antimicrobial transcriptional response in Litopenaeus stylirostris shrimp facing an experimental sub-lethal hydrogen peroxide stress ArchiMer
Cardona, Emilie; Saulnier, Denis; Lorgeoux, Benedicte; Chim, Liet; Gueguen, Yannick.
This study compares the antioxidant and antimicrobial transcriptional expression of blue shrimps reared according to two different systems, BioFloc Technology (BFT) and Clear sea Water (CW) and their differential responses when facing an experimental sublethal hydrogen peroxide stress. After 30 days of rearing, juvenile shrimps were exposed to H2O2 stress at a concentration of 30 ppm during 6 hours. The oxidative stress caused by H2O2 was examined in the digestive glands of the shrimp, in which antioxidant enzyme (AOE) and antimicrobial peptide (AMP) gene expression were analysed by quantitative real-time PCR. Results showed that rearing conditions did not affect the expression of genes encoding AOEs or AMPs. However, H2O2 stress induced a differential...

Relative contribution of natural productivity and compound feed to tissue growth in blue shrimp (Litopenaeus stylirostris) reared in biofloc: Assessment by C and N stable isotope ratios and effect on key digestive enzymes ArchiMer
Cardona, Emilie; Lorgeoux, Benedicte; Geffroy, Claire; Richard, Pierre; Saulnier, Denis; Gueguen, Yannick; Guillou, Gael; Chim, Liet.
The aim of this study was to assess the relative contribution of natural productivity and compound food to the growth of the juvenile blue shrimp Litopenaeus stylirostris reared in a biofloc system. Two experiments were carried out based on the same protocol with three treatments: clear water with experimental diet (CW), biofloc with experimental diet (BF) and biofloc unfed (BU). Shrimp survival was significantly higher in biofloc rearing than in CW rearing. The contribution of the biofloc to shrimp diet was estimated through measurement of carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios in shrimp and food sources. Different isotopic compositions between feeds were obtained by feeding natural productivity with a mixture rich in fish meal and the shrimps with a...

The atyid shrimps of Fiji with description of a new species Naturalis
Choy, S.C..
Fourteen species of shrimps belonging to four genera of the family Atyidae are reported from the Fiji Islands. Three genera are represented by only one species each: Antecaridina lauensis (Edmondson, 1935), Atyoida pilipes (Newport, 1847) and Atyopsis spinipes (Newport, 1847) while the fourth, Caridina is represented by eleven species (including one new, Caridina devaneyi spec. nov. which is described and illustrated). Keys are provided to separate the genera and species. Two species, Caridina japonica De Man, 1892 and C. longirostris H. Milne Edwards, 1837 are recorded from Fiji for the first time. C. devaneyi spec, nov., C. fijiana Choy, 1983 and C. nudirostris Choy, 1984 are so far known only from Fiji and may be endemic to the island of Viti Levu. All...
